Inanna
Inanna
acrylic and oil on canvas
32 x 92 inches
2017

Inanna invites closer inspection, tempting awareness of gender inequality, challenging archetypes embedded in religion and the broader society. To fully examine Inanna requires awareness of new perspective. One might be unaware of standing on a fine art painting of a body part. Or one might feel caught in a dilemma: hop off or crouch down for a closer look? Is the floor painting one of resignation or resilience as a consequence of vulnerability? I theorize that American culture is not fully informed and we move about in comfort with the mysterious female. I mean to provoke awareness and disrupt complacency.
