Adath, named for a pagan goddess, is a doormat with a vulva image. There are large emotional squalls suppressed with delicate hairy marks. How many people will take a closer look at the vulva? Even the word - vulva - is rarely spoken. There is power in naming. Often “vagina” is used when “vulva” is what we really mean. Coincidentally, most people can not draw a vulva and it is the body part that brings women the most pleasure. Using the vulva as source material is meant to bring it into our vernacular. Using the vulva as the image on a doormat intends to invite the viewer to a threshold or entry into a new narrative.
